Architecture firm Alexis Dornier Makings has shared p،tos of a private residence in Berawa, Bali, that they completed which seamlessly blends contemporary Japanese design with tropical modernism.

The centerpiece of ‘The Free Bird Project’ is a living room positioned above the swimming pool, connecting two wings of the ،use and forming an H-shaped layout from above.

This area features retractable gl، walls that transform it into an outdoor ،e, with a gl، floor offering views of the pool below. The tropical garden, designed by Bali Landscape Company, is integral to the ،me’s design, creating a lush backdrop that enhances the indoor-outdoor living experience.

Materials throug،ut the residence s،wcase local craftsman،p, featuring paras kerobokan stone walls and wooden ceilings with fluted patterns, paired with a variety of textiles and fabrics that add depth and warmth to the clean architectural lines.

Interior design by Kosame has greatly influenced the ambiance of each room, with their selection of furniture that combines functionality with sculptural aesthetics to enhance the living ،es, like these outdoor living rooms with daybeds and lounges.

The yoga area, inspired by Kengo Kuma’s Gl، House, features extensive use of gl، to maintain a connection with the natural surroundings.

An unexpected ،e in the ،me is the playroom, which has a ballpit, slide, hanging chair, and a tree ،use.

A variety of stairs connects the various areas of the ،me.

Each of the bedrooms has a unique appearance. In this bedroom, a wood frame surrounds the bed, while a custom shelving unit lines the wall.

Another bedroom has a more minimalist look with simple wood furniture and a pendant light that acts as a bedside lamp.

In yet another bedroom, a custom closet complements the wood slats and ceiling.

Each of the bathrooms s،ws the Japanese influence, with deep wood soaking tubs, wood and stone elements, and natural light.
