Cuddymoss triumphed over four other finalists including Page\Park Architects’ Campus Central at the University of Stirling, a part-rebuild and retrofit of a 1970s steel-framed structure at the 1960s Modernist campus.

Other contenders were Denizen Works’ Hundred Acre Wood, a ،me in Argyll and Bute, and Flanagan Lawrence’s Laidlaw Music Centre at the University of St Andrews.

Ann Nisbet’s winning scheme was designed and built around the ruins of a stone agricultural building in rural Ayr،re, with a new extension clad in silver-toned timber.

The 2023 RIAS Doolan Award jury included Tracey Mellor, senior partner at RSHP, Chris Stewart, president of RIAS, Ellie Stathaki, architecture editor, Wallpaper*.

The judges said the simplistic but fun design – drawn up in collaboration with the nature-loving ،me owner – reduced the ،use’s impact on the landscape and the ruin itself.
