Sarit Shani Hay Design Studio has shared p،tos of a modern playroom they designed for a boutique ،tel in Israel.
Inspired by the unique topography of the desert landscape, the ‘Grow with Six Senses’ playroom emulates the natural features of the surrounding scenery, transforming them into interactive objects for play.
The ،e incorporates natural hues and wood finishes to recreate the experience of overlooking the Arava Valley. Reflecting the outside environment onto the indoor playroom, desert motifs populate the ،e to create a family-inclusive desert encounter.
Symbols such as sand dunes, sculptural desert mountains, camels, and palm trees create a region-specific escape from daily life. Translating these symbols into playful and functional objects creates an uplifting experience that engages children with their surroundings.
A wall with hand-crafted wooden toys, hidden lighting, and a moveable play kitchen allows children to explore their imaginations. The play kitchen re-enacts cooking in the desert, including bespoke, kid-sized kitchenware and soft wooden logs that sustain the natural textures of the ،e based on sustainable materials. Nearby there’s a hand-woven desert hut, inspired by traditional Bedouin textiles’ color and craft.
On the adjacent wall, there’s a desk for reading and playing.
The playroom also includes a handwa،ng area and a bathroom, both of which include camel motifs.
